Modern and Traditional Upholstery Services

I am here to help with your full upholstery needs both modern and traditional upholstery. I offer upholstery of dining chairs, ottomans, armchairs, headboards, footstools, cushions and more…

Whether a piece of furniture is reupholstered using modern or traditional methods usually depends on the age of the piece of furniture and what is in keeping with the frame to retain its original character. I am also happy to discuss whether it is possible to simply recover an existing piece of furniture rather than completely reupholster, this can be assessed on a case by case basis.

The choice of fabric to go on the top of all of these upholstered items is a collaborative exercise with you, it is your tastes and needs that influence the fabric samples that are sent to you to ensure you find the right fabric for your home, your lifestyle and your personality.

Whether a piece of furniture requires traditional or modern techniques and materials or a recover, the end result will be the same, a beautiful and unique piece of furniture for your home that is one-of-a kind.

Dining & Occasional Chairs

Dining chairs are items of furniture that get used multiple times a day and as the years go on, they can show signs of wear. Don’t replace it, reupholster it! What were once well worn dining chairs can be transformed into exciting chairs to be proud of that are equally comfortable to sit on.

Occasion chairs can often be a statement piece, they may be small but wow, they can look stunning when covered in the right fabric.

Armchairs

Whether you have a modern wingback chair that needs a revamp or a traditional antique armchair that has seen better days or anything in between then we can work with this. It may be a chair with fond memories, or it could be a recently acquired bargain with potential.

Lets give these chairs a makeover, make them look totally different to before and ready to be loved again.

Footstools

Footstools are a piece of furniture that once you have got used to it, you never want to be without it. However the challenges thrown at them by everyday life of feet, jeans and pets to name a few can mean that they can start to look tired. Don’t replace it, reupholster it!

There are so many gorgeous fabrics to choose from and the end result will be a beautiful unique piece of furniture for your home that is ready to be loved again.

Reupholstered Ottoman

Ottomans

Ottomans are great for storing items, whether it is children’s toys, bedding and blankets or anything else, they are incredibly useful pieces of furniture.

Upholstering an ottoman box can result in a either a statement piece of furniture to make an impact in a room, or equally a muted fabric choice could blend in completely with existing décor. The choice is yours!

Cushions

New cushions can give a room a new look instantly without having to redecorate.

Whether you need some new scatter cushions or replacement seat cushions. Square, rectangular, piped or not in a fabric of your choice with a choice of inners. I can help with this.

Headboards

A freshly upholstered headboard can make a tired looking bed look like new again.

Rather than replacing an entire bed, I can refresh your headboard with a fabric of your choice to go with the décor of your room.

Do get in touch with any potential project you may have as I may be able to help turn that piece of furniture back into a beautiful and cherished item for your home.

How it works

Get In Touch

If you have a piece of furniture that you would like to be upholstered, or you may be acquiring a piece in the foreseeable future, the first step it to get in touch. Provide as much information as possible including photos and dimensions of the piece of furniture.

Receive Estimate

I will then be in touch with an estimate of the cost and the amount of fabric that may be required and an estimate of how long the work may take. I may ask for further information, or ask you to bring the piece of furniture to me to look at or I could come to you.

Discuss Fabrics

If you want to proceed at this point, we start to discuss fabrics that you may be interested in based on the colour scheme and textures you like ensuring these are suitable not only for the piece of furniture, but also the lifestyle you lead.

View Samples

I will arrange for a selection of samples to be sent to you at home so you can look at these with your existing furniture, in the light of your room and with the piece to be upholstered before making a decision. If none of them are right, don’t worry, we will keep looking until we find the right one.

Once the fabric is chosen, the upholstery process can begin and the journey to getting a beautiful and unique piece of furniture starts.

Kirsty reupholstered some 60s dining chairs we had which were very shabby. She was very helpful in suggesting suitable fabrics and information about suppliers. We were thrilled with the very professional finish and will use Dovehouse Upholstery again.

About Me

I am Kirsty, the owner of Dovehouse Upholstery.  After inheriting a pair of chairs which were my grandparents wedding present to one another and having these reupholstered in a gorgeous fabric, the craft of upholstery really grabbed my interest and I loved having one-of-a-kind unique pieces of furniture in my home.

When the opportunity for a career change arose, I seized it and trained with the Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers (AMUSF).

Whether you have a piece of furniture that has been in your family for a long time and has seen better days, you acquired it through an online market place or it is a new item that isn’t quite right, do get in touch as I could transform this into a completely unique item just for you.

Rather than throwing furniture away and adding to landfill, upholstery is an opportunity to restore rather than replace. I aim to make your furniture look totally different to before and ready to be loved again.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I get a quote for upholstery?

You can either email me at kirsty@dovehouseupholstery.co.uk sending some pictures and measurements of an item and I will contact you. Alternatively, fill out the contact me form using this link and I will be in touch.

How will I choose a fabric for my piece of furniture?

I can help you choose the fabric that is right for your piece of furniture based on your tastes and lifestyle. I will arrange for fabric samples to be sent to your home so you can look at them on your piece of furniture and with the rest of your décor to ensure they work for you in your home. If you don’t like the initial samples, we will keep looking, there are so many fabrics to choose from, it is important you get the right one.

Do you hold a stock of fabric?

We are a small business and as a result, I order fabric for specific projects and do not keep fabrics in stock.

Can I use my own fabric on my piece of furniture?

The honest answer is that depends and we would need to look at it on a case by case basis to ensure that there is both enough fabric and that it is suitable for the piece of furniture.

What types of furniture do you work on?

I work on small to medium pieces of furniture including footstools, ottomans, headboards, dining chairs, armchairs and cushions including scatter cushions and furniture cushions. Unfortunately at present, I am unable to work on complete sofas.

Do you restore furniture?

Unfortunately I do not restore furniture, I am able to stain / oil the legs of chairs and stools, but not full restoration, however, I may be able to provide you with the details of someone who can help you in the local area.
